With the explosion of digital camera models in the last few years, it’s quite hard, if not impossible, to keep up with the evolution and assess which gadget fits your needs. This article is meant to be a brief digital camera buying guide, in the hope it will guide you on the right track. There are three main categories of consumer cameras, and we will try to brief them here.

Getting a digital camera is something that most people want, because they have great processing power, because they don’t need film to store images and because you’re able to see the results of your work as soon as you take the photos. You can easily share them with friends or family and they have a great design. If you want to know what are the differences between digital and film cameras, below you can read about them.

Compact cameras are the next step from point-and-shooters. While they don’t provide features professionals crave for, they introduce more advanced features, like image stabilization technology that helps photos not get blurry in dim or low light conditions. They are medium sized and could fit in a pocket. The LCD size is in the range of 2.0 to 2.5″, still smaller than the ones on professional cameras.

All this information is recorded on memory cards, from which you can get them on hard drives. While a memory card is similar to a hard drive, they’re smaller, so they fill up fast if the photos are too big. While old cameras needed films to stock photos, digital models need memory cards, but they can fit more photos and they’re reusable.

Some of these also allow attaching lenses and filters, yet they don’t rise up to the performance of a full blown SLR. Regarding the size, they are usually big and should be carried in a bag. The screen is 2.8 or 3.0″, as large as the one on DSLR’s.

You will find that there is many Kodak digital camera suggestions to check out before you decide which camera will best suit your needs. For the most part, Kodak digital cameras are rated highly with consumers. You can always check reviews to find out what users have to say about the camera before you make a decision.

If you are a beginner, this is the type of camera you need for now. As long as you’re satisfied with the quality of the photos and you don’t need the manual controls, a point and shoot will work great for you. The camera’s features will automatically reduce the red eye from the photos and will make sure that they compensate for the shaking of your hands.

What’s the best reason for buying a digital camera? They say, there are only two big reasons why people buy anything. The first is to avoid pain, and the second is to gain pleasure. Assuming that your not considering buying a Canon PowerShot A460 Digital Camera to avoid pain, let’s consider what pleasure could be gained from buying the A460. The pleasure of capturing life’s memorable moments for posterity.

The pleasure of creating art with the perfect shot of a sunset over the Misty Mountains. The pleasure of showing off your brilliant photography to all your admiring friends. Before we get too far Zen though, there are some things you should know before you rush off to buy a Canon A460.

When picking a digital camera, one should know that each camera falls into a certain category. These categories include ultra compact, compact, creative compact, SLR-like, and SLR.

Considering, that the A460 only goes to a maximum of ISO 400, you would think that photos taken would be fairly noise free. In reality, image noise seems to be a step behind the competing products. ISO 100 images from the PowerShot A460 seem like they were shot at 200 or 400 setting. Things have improved over the years with image noise reduction in most camera models, but unfortunately the A460 hasn’t quite kept up.

Another piece of new technology missing from the A460, is image stabilization. Image stabilization is pretty common fare on even the most basic of digital cameras these days. It’s nice for anyone with shaky hands. Even for those with a rock solid grip, image stabilization can make the difference between a perfect shot, and one that’s just a bit too blurry even for PhotoShop.

If your camera is really broken, contact the manufacturer. Maybe your camera has some sort of warranty. If not, find out how much repair and shipping will cost.

If I was feeling a bit nostalgic, I might just buy a Canon A460 for the right price. Otherwise, I’d have to take a pass. If I was writing this piece a few years ago, my recommendation might be different. But I’m not. Fear not though gentle reader, as there are more digital cameras at great prices available then your dog could shake a stick at. Keep looking, you’ll find value for your money.

Digital cameras are built compactly and include electronic components, making them hard to disassemble and repair. This is why repair costs are so high. Only the action of diagnosing and finding the problem is expensive because of the special testing equipments used in this process. And the repair of the camera requires other tools and special calibration equipment.

A kid tough digital camera for a teenager in should have a durable body with some features to make taking pictures fun. The two cameras that may come to mind are the Casio of the Canon. Both of these manufacturers make digital cameras with kids in mind.

Other problems that users experience are broken battery covers, broken hinges on memory card doors or cracked LCD screens. Moreover, if you repeatedly insert a memory card the wrong way, you risk damaging the contacts inside the camera.

The kid just digital camera from Fisher-Price cost about seventy dollars. The memory card can hold about 50 images. There is some distortion when you look through the lens and the resolution is low, but these cameras are idea for youngsters. No matter what kind of pictures these cameras take, the kids love them.

If you didn’t succeed in improving anything using the advices listed above it’s time to call an authorized repair service center. Be sure you’re accurate in describing what’s wrong with your device and ask for minimum repair and shipping costs and in how many days you’ll get your camera back. Don’t forget to ask for a warranty for the repair service. If your problem is not so serious, like a broken hinge, a local repair shop may be a good idea as most likely it will be cheaper.

More advanced photographers will want some degree of manual controls over the shot they are taking. Advanced compact cameras offer controls like exposure time, shutter speed and white balance. But if you don’t know what these are, you are better off with a regular point-and-shoot camera.

Why pay for the manual features if you will only use the AUTO mode? Most automated modes cover the basic scenarios that are more than enough for an amateur photographer: portraits, landscapes and close-ups.

by Chris Campbell

In these tough economic times, it doesn’t matter if your buying a house, a digital camera, or Trump Towers, it’s important to get the best deal for your dollar.

Just by looking at the website of the camera’s manufacturer you will find the phone number and address of the nearest repair facility. SLR camera repair might be a bit harder if you’re not from USA, but from a third world country. Still, you always have the option of sending the camera body together with your credit card number to a company that repairs digital cameras.

If the camera you want to repair is an older 35mm model that has some kind of sentimental value, then the $200 you might spend to repair it can be worth it. In this case, send it back to the manufacturer, Pentax, Nikon, whoever they might be.

Check with the local retailer if the camera you are buying is covered by warranty. Also, you will want details on what happens if it breaks down: will it be repaired in a local store or do you have to mail it? Does the warranty cover all labor and spare parts expenses? Also, do they offer extended warranty? You might consider signing such a contract to protect your investment after the warranty period expires.

Not only will you get a better price, but you won’t have to sacrifice by settling for a limited selection of choices.

True, you may have to wait a few extra days for shipping to get what you want, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I’m the kind of shopper that appreciates not having to drive to a mall, wasting gas, and battling the crowds to get what I want.

If you live in New England, then you should consider talking with Steve Grimes 401-762-0857, or check out his site, at skgrimes.com. He uses custom machining to solve a number of problems, together with shutter repairs of the larger format, mounting lenses and many others.

As much as possible, try to purchase rechargeable batteries with high autonomy rather than non rechargeable ones. No matter how much they cost, you will end up saving money in the long run.

As an amateur photographer, I once owned a Panasonic SLR that has worked wonders for me for a couple of years. I decided, though, that it was high time I kept up with the technology and entered the digital age. My first gadget was a point-and-shoot camera, and I was quite frustrated due to the lack of flexibility if offered and the poor quality. Don’t get me wrong, it was alright for taking shots at a barbecue and in the office, but I needed something more.

If you buy a cheap camera that does not have high megapixels or a good zoom in and out, you might find that the camera is not something you can use in different situations.

All auto modes work great, but you can override most settings manually and get even better results. With an ISO setting around 400 there is considerable noise, but nowhere close to what I was getting on my old SLR film camera. I was able to reduce it considerably with Photoshop and got some surprisingly good indoor pictures.

Face recognition works seamlessly without any additional settings. The portraits in auto mode look natural, without over-exposures. Red eye reduction is also decent, I barely had to do any post-processing tweaks to remove the demon-looking eyes.

The built-in scene settings satisfy any amateur photographer’s needs. The list is quite exhaustive, and includes night, sunset, underwater and snow modes. The effects worked as if I had used Photoshop on the raw picture, which saved me a lot of time.

The Fuji FinePix Z5fd is another cheap digital camera for under one hundred and twenty dollars. If you plan to make prints larger than the standard 4 by 5, you will not find this camera compatible for your needs.

The camera only has 6.3 megapixels, but is a lightweight and compact camera that fits anywhere. Two other cameras to look at are the Kodak Easyshare V1253 and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8.

To wrap it up, Canon PowerShot is a great camera, so far it has worked great for my purposes. I would recommend it to anyone who needs more control than a regular point-and-shoot can offer, but is not yet ready to move to a DSLR.

There are some Fujifilm digital camera problems, but nothing very serious. The Finepix Z5fd has a few problems with the design. Users report that because the camera is so flat that it is hard to locate and feel the buttons. It is also reported that one of the problems with this camera is that it does not refocus or zoom in movie mode.

The idea for a durable camera is not found with this particular model. The other problem is the memory card. A larger memory card would prevent dropping of pictures. You will have to use rechargeable batteries with this digital camera.

Some other Fujifilm digital camera problems were reported with earlier models, but have since been corrected by Fuji. The noise level is not flattering with the earlier Fuji cameras but has since been corrected. With the addition of a higher resolution viewing screen, Fuji has managed to improve the battery life of the camera.

The reviews for this camera are all positive. The camera itself feels easy to handle at the features and functions are very easy to understand.

The S3 Pro is another exceptional camera by Fuji. It seems that all Fuji digital cameras reviews include this camera for some reason or another. The camera comes with this super CCD SR sensor and has a reputation for taking crisp clearer pictures that are very close to film in quality.

Many people agree that the F series Fuji cameras have improved. However, there are still some problems with picture clarity, if the user does not know how to make adjustments. This again is partly the manufacturer’s problem and user error.

If you’re not great with technology, buying a digital camera might be hard for you. There are hundreds of options out there. In most cases, people will have no idea where to start. They can turn to Consumer Reports sometimes, and that might help them if they want a camera. Buying a digital camera doesn’t need to be something unpleasant. If you do a little research in advance, you can enjoy this process.

I bought a digital camera a few years back, for myself, but I didn’t really look into all the options that were available. I just didn’t think I should give too much thought to the purchase of a camera. Being a beginner in this field, all I took into consideration was the price. I chose something that wasn’t too cheap or too expensive. It was average price wise. Taking into consideration only the price is a bad way to buy a camera, you can trust me on that.

Like so many other models, its small size prevents a comfortable grip, even with smaller hands. With bigger hands things become even more problematic. A better grip is possible with the addition of an additional battery / grip attachment.

That digital camera was a disappointment from the first photo I took with it. It has hard to use and I needed several hours to learn how to take proper photos. Still, I didn’t like it even then. The real problem that annoyed me was that this camera needed four seconds pause for each shot it took.

More than that, when taking a picture, there was a delay of two seconds. This is a problem because you’re not really sure when to push the button. Imagine something that takes just a few seconds, like a baby’s smile, and you realize that the delay can cost you the photo.

It would make sense though, to try out this model with a lens heavier then the70-200 mm f2.8. At least to get a better idea of weight distribution and balance. In any case, your final photographs when using mid-range lens lights should be quite acceptable.

Consumer Reports helped us in that regard and together with my wife we decided that we should go with the “Best Buy” pick. It fitted out needs perfectly. Just like my experience taught me, I always research anything I’m buying and that is especially true for digital cameras.

Manufacturers of digital cameras all over the world have one promise-they are the best. But amidst the promotions and marketing strategies, how will you find the best digital camera for the photographer in you? Simple. Just read this article and for sure, you will be on your way to finding the best digital camera in town.

Fortunately for you, I’m not one of those that subscribe to that belief. While it’s true that technology and stiff competition have produced some truly outstanding digital cameras, there’s still a few guidelines that the savvy consumer live by.

While the resolution of the camera is not that important, the controls must be automatic, it needs to have some kind of storage media that can be changed, and the price shouldn’t be over $300. Taking some low quality videos with sound is a plus.

Digital camera manufacturers always promise that they have the best digital camera ever. As a consumer, you need to be aware that such a statement is just part of its marketing strategies.

I will show them off to my friends, bragging about what they can do, as long as the camera isn’t difficult to use. While price is important, it’s not the most important concern.

Category charts are readily available on the Internet. You can also find them in photography shops. Just make sure that you get a category chart from a reputable source.

Know the kind of photography you would like to get into. So be sure to decide on this mater before getting into the hunt.

If you want to take close-up pictures of things like insects and flowers, the best digital camera for you would be the one that allows you to shoot for macrophotography. If you are still clueless on what type of photography you like, better gather all the pictures you have taken in the past. You’re sure to find their unifying theme.

Many people make the mistake of buying a camera without trying It out. Photography stores allow their clients to try and hold their cameras before making a purchase. Holding the camera in your hands and trying out its many features are sure ways of finding the best digital camera for you.

I’ve been waiting for years for an SLR camera model to come out that has changeable lenses and has the vibe of an instamatic camera. A camera that would be affordable and user-friendly even to amateur users by making the focusing, and customization and adjustment of settings a breeze. This is exactly what I found in the Minolta SLR camera QTsi 35mm kit. The bundled 35-80mm lens is great for taking closeup shots and extending shooting distance.

If you want to take closeup or telephoto shots, all you have to do is add one or two lenses and you’re all set. The Minolta QTsi also comes bundled with a flash that lets you capture amazing photos even in low-light or dark conditions, given your subjects are within the covered distance of the flash. You also have the option of attaching a larger flash if you want to take photos from greater distances.

The LCD viewing angle is excellent, which is probably around 160-170 degrees vertically and horizontally. The Digital Rebel XSi also has a status screen separated from, and located above, the main screen of the LCD. This arrangement works for me because I’m able to see all the settings on the back screen. There are also two features that the XSi has that used to be missing in the Digital Rebels: flash exposure compensation and spot metering. These for me are important features because they make the images more “complete” and compelling.

Check the prices and see how they compare. Look at the design and see if it will handle comfortably when taking pictures. Next, you should read reviews to see if the camera is all that it says it is and if there are any known problems. This is very important when selecting the best camera.

Higher ISO values makes the camera more sensitive to light, which makes it possible to achieve faster shutter speeds under certain lighting conditions. If you’re not familiar with ISO settings, you can opt to use the Auto ISO function which automatically sets and matches the ISO and the aperture to ensure proper exposure at certain shutter speeds.

The XSi 450D has tons more of other great features which are making more and more users hail it as one of the best SLR cameras, if not the top SLR camera, available today in the entry-level arena.

Why is so difficult for camera companies to come up with one good all around digital camera that’s perfect for all occasions? I suppose it’s not really in their best interests to encourage consumers to only own one perfect camera, when they can sell them several. If I were more of a conspiracy theory advocate, I’d suggest they do it on purpose. But, I’m not, and I do believe there are other factors at work here. With all that being said, it doesn’t mean we can at least try to find the most likely candidate for best all around digital camera.

The release of the 450D is basically an upgraded version of the Canon EOS 400D, which was of course an upgrade from the Canon EOS 300D. Being one of the best selling models in the Canon line, a major overhaul would have been crazy on Canons part, both from a sales number perspective, and a user experience perspective. They have however added several smart new features. Not the least of which being Live View.

There is of course the option to use the viewfinder to frame your shots. You need to be aware though, that with this and many PowerShots, the viewfinder is not totally accurate. You’ll find that your pictures are about 20-25% bigger than what you see through the A650IS viewfinder. Something to be aware of when your snapping the shutter.

Another thing not to get too excited about with the PowerShot A650, is the wide range of ISO formats available. While it’s true, that you can shoot up to 3200 ISO, in reality, any images at 400 ISO or above are going to be excessively noisy. Depending on the image subject, and what your going to do with the images you may be able to push your luck a little here.

As all things in the realm of tech toys, the consumer battle cry of “more! more! more!”, has not gone unnoticed by Canon. The 450D Digital Rebel has improved a list of features, including more megapixels (12.2), a larger LCD screen (3 inches), larger viewfinder, longer capacity battery (yea!), and a much more ergonomic battery grip, just to name a few. One surprising change, is that the 450D can use SD and SDHC memory cards. Typically these cards were only used with smaller point and shoot cameras. Canon is obviously recognizing and marketing to the large segment of point and shoot digital compact camera users looking to move up to a SLR.

To build one camera that can do everything would be ideal, but were not there yet. I believe we will be at some point, but a number of technologies still need to make some considerable advances before that can happen. Lens technology and camera intelligence being the two main ones. Until then, the best all around digital camera will just have to be the one your holding right now. Like the song says, “Love the one your with”.
