I Love You Alice B – Unparalleled comedy in reference to the panicking of gentle-behaved L.A. attorney. Vendor has never been more superior. The film was written by Larry Tucker and Paul Mazursky. Cast Peter Vendors, Jo Minivan Fleet, Leigh Taylor-Young, and Joyce Van Patten. (93 minutes,’68)

The Defiant – A fascinating account of 2 escaped convicts, one black and one white who are chained together as they escape from prison in the South. Excellent performances by Williams and Chaney as individuals they meet during the voyage. Academy Prize for screenplay by Harold Jacob Smith and Nathan E. Cast includes Tony Curtis, Sidney Poitier, Theodore Bike, Charles McGraw, Carnie Williams, and Lon Chaney, Jr. (97 minutes,’58)

China Nine Liberty 37 – This is a bewildering Western in which railroad tycoons spare a man from gallows in trade for killing another gunfighter. The gunfighter’s girl falls for the killer and helps do his evil work. Title refers to the road sign giving distance to 2 nearby towns. Cast includes Warren Oates, Fabio Testi, Jenny Agutter, and Sam Peckinpah. (102 minutes,’78)

In Enemy Country – So-so WW2 story, set in France and England, filmed on a back-lot. Not extremely persuading. Cast includes Tony Franciosa, Anjanette Comer

Season of Passion – Classy research of human being interaction; MIlls and Borgnine are country workers who each year make a trip to the city for their affair with Baxter and Lansbury. Cast includes Anne Baxter, John MiIls, Angela Lansbury, Ernest Borgnine, and Janette Craig. (93 minutes,’59)

Cry the Beloved Country – Moving redo of the’51 film based on Alan Paton’s beloved novel, in reference to a backwoods pastor (Jones) who, in’46, makes his first ever trip to the city of Johannesburg in search of his errant child. At the same time affluent landowner Harris voyages there to claim the body of his child, who has just been killed. We see exceptional work by Jones, Harris, and a largely foreign cast. Not as understated as the first making, however powerful in its own way. Cast includes Richard Harris, James Earl Jones, Charles S. Dutton, and Vusi Kunene. (120 minutes,’95)

I like to save movies to the computer to begin with and then transport them to the game console.
